8th grade White Team - Growth in the midst of adversity, that’s the overriding theme of this weekends play.
Our play this weekend progressively improved despite physical challenges and fatigue stemming from limited athletes.
Our defensive effort and speed of play proved to be our greatest challenges but there were clear signs of improvement and team continuity over the course of the tournament.
Danny Cordoba was productive throughout the tournament. He showed athleticism and leadership which he is continuing to develop.
Jason Goodwin fought off injury and produced offensively when on the floor.
“Lil” Mike displayed a good shooting touch from distance while “Big” Mike showed he can be a force inside.
Darryl contributed with his speed and showed he has the ability to be a threat on both ends of the court.
“Smyler” helped out Big Mike inside while Lance continually pushed the ball up the floor opening up offensive opportunities.
Quintin had limited play but his energy defensively contributed to the progress of the team.
The lesson taken away from this weekend’s tournament is we must improve our conditioning and must do a better job of playing Pressure defense. Being able to sustain our intensity will be the key to our future success.
With a final tournament record of 2-2 there is room for improvement, but there was definitely an upside noticed by the coaching staff.
