WC Warrior Tournament Recap!

April 23, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

Parents, once again I want to thank you for your support this weekend. I know it was difficult for some to make it this weekend.

The 6th Grade Boys Team played three games in the WCW tournament. Our record was 1-2. In the first game the team didn’t play very well at all. Scoring only 8 points our offense was the worst I’ve seen from this team. It was very disappointing to say the least.

In the second game the effort was a lot better. Everyone that played improved upon their performance in the first game. The game was within reach up until the end.

The third game was the best game of the tournament. It came down to an exiting finale. I was really happy with our defense down the stretch. We were able to pressure the opposition until they cracked. To close out the game Jay made two pressure packed free throws to win the game.

By the end of the tournament our team was back to playing Pressure Basketball. Our issue now is to develop consistency. We need to be able to play our brand of basketball every time we step on the floor.

We’ll be back working hard to improve this weekend at practice.
I’ll see you there.

Focus Tournament Recap!

To the Parents, thanks again for your support this past weekend, it does not go unnoticed.

We would like to welcome back our first young lady of basketball, Laura Mclaughlin and congratulate our new high school girls team on a good effort at the Lynwood tournament.

Despite having never practiced together as a unit, the Pressure Girls won their first game and won the second halves of each game they played, showing a lot of heart and toughness.

Just wait until we get some practice time together!

The 6th Grade Boys Team gave another good effort at the Focus Sports Tournament. Although our record was only 1-2 we had a chance to win all of our games. Having only six players on Saturday and seven on Sunday was tough for the team to overcome, but they never gave up. They battled until the end in both losses. The team is definitely becoming tougher and more determined.

I think this team has a chance to be really good in the future if we keep working hard and working together.

I can really see improvement in the team and the individual players. There are moments when the team seems to lose focus, but those moments tend to occur less frequently than before. I also think the team is also more confident going into games against tough competition than before. Right now we’re much more competitive than we were earlier in the season. The team is starting to develop into a pretty good group.

We still have a lot of work to do. This weekend at practice we’re back at it.

I’ll see you there.

2009 Focus Sports Tournament (8th White & Blue Teams)

Was it revenge?

Our play this weekend by both Pressure teams lacked the necessary focus, effort and intensity to achieve greater success.  With that said, positive strides were made by various players but the collective output of all fell short of what was needed and expected.

Each team experienced wins, but the overarching observation was that Team Mercadel, who played both 8th grade teams, showed up ready for revenge from their defeat to us during their tournament in January.  Team Mercadel showed a higher level of physical play, speed, and intensity and ended the tournament as champions.

The defeats to Team Mercadel showed it is TEAM that wins tournaments; every member giving their best effort for the benefit of the team and ultimately the Pressure program.

Yes we fell short of our goals this weekend – increasing our level of play, continuing to improve our level of intensity and focus, and every member of the team giving all they have both on and off the court, but the great thing about defeats is sometimes you get a second chance to redeem yourself.

IT’S TIME FOR REDEMPTION!  The next time we play Team Mercadel let’s show them we’re ready (blue and white) to meet the challenge.

Players Note: As we move forward we still have an expectation that each athlete continue to work on their individual game during the week.  Are you working on your defense?  Are you working on footwork, individual offensive moves, ball handling, passing and shooting when away from Pressure’s practices?  If you’re not, it’s time you did.

ENJOY THE WEEK OFF!  WE’LL SEE YOU ON APRIL 11TH.
