High School Update-Class of 2009!

September 28, 2009 by admin

Well Pressure family, another year has flown by and our second graduating class has hit the ground running.

It’s no surprise that Basketball is their main sport of choice, but a few have doubled up and made their football team as well.

We’ll start with Michael Doshi.

Michael is one of our players who understood the meaning of Student/Athlete.  He culminated his 8th grade year with high honors (President’s Award-Gold for academic excellence and Principal’s List for achieving a 4.0 GPA). Michael was accepted to CAMS (California Academy of Math and Science) High School which is located inside the campus of  Cal State Dominguez Hills University .

Due to his all-around academic excellence and extracurricular activities (playing club basketball and volunteering in school functions and w/ Pressure Basketball Club-feeding the homeless) he was one of the few (four from his school) to be accepted in a pool of about 600 applicants to fill a freshman class of 116. His first opportunity to impress the coaches came in the form of an impromptu free throw shooting contest which he won hitting 7 out of 10. Update: Michael Doshi made the Varsity Basketball Team one of only two freshmen to do so!

************************************************************

Ryan Lee is yet another player who got the message. He graduated 8th grade with 2 awards.  First one was academic excellence award voted by his teachers.  Second award was Rotary Club outstanding student award judged on scholarship, citizenship, leadership, and service.  Ryan will be playing for La Canada High School Freshmen Basketball Team where he earned the starting point guard position.

************************************************************

Freshman Mike Wilson is a young man on a mission. He is playing for JW North in Riverside, made the freshman team and is running the point.  Mike’s work effort in the class and on the court is excellent.  He starts his day at 7 am with basketball  and ends his day in the weight room.

In between the end of the school day and his afternoon weight training he is hitting the books, his goal is to get a 3.8 his first quarter of school, so far he has a 4.0.
*********************************************

Tyler Hildreth made both the JV basketball and JVfootball teams at Palisades High School.  He play’s CB, TE, & WR for football and in his first game aganst Hollywood, had 2 catches and one INT in a 27-6 win.

************************************************************

Camden Hill is at View Park Prep Charter School, where he is playing Varsity Football as a Safety. Camden spent his summer in Film school where he directed a short film about relationships and will also play Basketball for the CIF small school champions.

************************************************************

Josh Proctor and Quentin Shropshire are Freshmen at University High School and both made the cut during basketball tryout’s this summer. UPDATE: Josh made JV team and Quentin made the Frosh/Soph team!

************************************************************

Nate Miyagishima is a standout player on the freshman team at North Torrance.

************************************************************

Tyler Weakland is playing on the JV basketball team at Flintridge Prep.

************************************************************

Big Mike Turner is pulling double duty at Bishop Montgomery making both the Freshman football and basketball teams.

************************************************************

Ana Scuric graduated from middle school with straight “A”s and is playing on the JV basketball team at Harvard Westlake.

Kathy Bolton-Ford, another straight A student/athlete, is also at Div 4a powerhouse Harvard Westlake playing JV basketball.

************************************************************

Markie is a Sophomore at Culver City High School and after very long and hard consideration has decided to play another year at the J.V. level.  Even though she was asked to move up to play varsity, the amount of playing time and superior coaching on J.V. were the deciding factors in her decision.

************************************************************

Our first group, the class of 2008, continues to do well with Sophomore Jason Goodwin leading the JV basketball team at our home base Culver City high school. Daniel Cordova formally at Culver City transfered to Saint Bernards Catholic school to run with their Varsity basketball team.

Sophomore Kory Hamane and Junior Jordan Whaley are standout starters for Flintridge Prep’s Varsity Football team and both return to the Varsity basketball  team in the fall.

Our first lady, Junior Laura McLaughlin, is now playing with a talented varsity squad at Chadwick high school in Rolling Hills.

Lil’ Josh Munzon is running point on the JV team at Long Beach Poly and Darius Spates and J.B Baxter are moving up to the Varsity squad at Verbum Dei. Sophomore Teren Hart has been moved up to the Varsity squad at North Torrance.

Sophomore Nick Ceja is playing backup quarterback and safety for Brea Olinda Willdcats Varsity team and will also play JV basketball this year.  Jack Karapetian and John are starters for their Armenian High School and Sophomore “Puff” Ingram ison the Varsity team and making them pay at El Modena in Orange County.

Junior Micah Shirley, Senior Emery Else, and Sophomore’s Andre Frazier and Elijah Reed are all playing two sports  at Bell-Jeff High School. All four are standout players for the Varsity football team and Micah is on pace to smash his school record from last year of 1006 receiving yards. They are also projected starters on the newly revamped Varsity basketball team.

*******************************

Ernie Cabrara is a defensive lineman for Servite high school.

We wish all of our players good luck for this upcoming season and will use this column to update their progress throughout the year.

Go Pressure!

    Dear Pressure Family,

    High School Update: Michael Doshi

Michael’s High School (CAMS) finalized their selection for their Boys Basketball team. There were about 2 dozen students from all grade levels trying out this year to fill a few open positions for this year’s basketball team.

We are proud to inform the Pressure family that Michael was selected to join the VARSITY Basketball team.

There was only one other freshman selected to join the team.

Michael wishes to thank the Pressure Coaching Staff for all they have taught him. When asked where did he play basketball before, he is always proud to say Pressure Basketball Club.

We’ll keep you posted once the season starts.

    Regards,
    Doshi Family
