Our Journey to the Obama Inauguration!

As Coach Brice likes to say, “…Pressure, is more than just basketball. We encourage our players to excel not only on the basketball court, but in the classroom as well.” Young Demetrio Kerrison Jr. is a guard on our 6th grade team. He is a great kid who is quick to smile and takes his studies as serious as his basketball

Dee and his family, recently had the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. and witness the inauguration of our nations first African American President, Barack Obama.

This is his mother Giannas’ first hand account of their trip.

Thank you Gianna and Dee for sharing your experience with us.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles, these are the sights and memories from our Journey to the Inauguration of Barack Obama!

The Kerrison family, (Gianna, Demetrio Sr. and Dee Jr,) left California on January 18th taking the red-eye flight from Orange County to Philadelphia.

When we arrived in Philly to 10 degree weather and snow on the ground, then took a train into DC where the weather was a balmy 30 degrees!

We spent the day visiting the city and meeting journalist documenting such a historic event.

Gospel artist Donnie McClurkin was on hand giving his account of how important the day was is to Dee Jr and posed for a picture.

Gwen Ifill was also there, even more famous now not only for moderating the final obama/McCain debate but for being spoofed on Saturday Night Live!  She was very thrilled to meet her fans and sign her new book.

At dinner on Monday, January 18th we met many politicians but one was proud to meet a young citizen named Dee kerrison, Jr.

Who do you think smiled bigger?

Finally we woke at 5am on Tuesday – the big day!!!

You know what?  We were late as many people filled the street walking to the capital to see the Obamas take center stage.

We all made our way taking five (5) hours to get to our ticket holders spot in the Silver Section where everyone watched in awe as Aretha Franklin approached the stage in her “Church hat” and sang ever so sweetly.

Then the moment arrived and you could hear a pin drop on the grass as our first African-American President was sworn into office.

You could hear all 4 million of us cheer!

We were then off to lunch, nap, dinner that evening.

On Wednesday, we spoke fondly of our trip as we drove to Philadelphia airport and boarding the plan home!

What sweet memories!!!
