Ryan Hollins Skills Camp Pictures!
Pasadena - On August 2 – 4 Cleveland Cavalier Ryan Hollins brought the NBA to Pasadena Muir high school and Pressure Basketball Club was there.
Hollins, a Mustang alum, held his 2nd annual Ryan Hollins Basketball Skills Camp designed to teach young players the fundamentals of the game.
He was joined by former Laker Tracy Murry, NBA D-League player Horace Wormley along with UCLA head coach Ben Howland as well as our own coach Brice and the Pressure coaching staff and a host of others, who all shared their knowledge and expertise with over 125 “campers”.
Each and every camper also received a “good bag” filled with t-shirts, balls, ect. courtesy of UCLA and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Thanks for another successful event Ryan and Good Luck in Cleveland!

Tournament Re-cap… November!

Little Guys supply lots of PRESSURE!
What a difference a month makes, from winning one to winning it all. On Saturday the guys pressured Newport Lightening into several mistakes which made for an easy 48-28 win. In our second game Pressure pushed the host team OC Swoosh around for another easy win 56-22. We’re still far away from playing the type of defense that the coaches would like to see, but baby steps are being made.
The championship game started out a little slow but Dominic got a couple of steals which led to some easy baskets for little Shank. These little guys are fun to watch, they all play with smiles on their faces like there playing video games. Dominic played really well the entire weekend and could have easily captured the MVP award.
Getting the trophy was Journey Shank who hit from outside and inside using both hands on lay-ups, he and Dominic use both their hands like there already in high school, these kids are pretty impressive in that area. Once the entire team figure out it’s more enjoyable to play hard nose defense then we’ll be something special.
There were some nice contributions from Kole who hit some big shots from the elbow, Rudy played really well on Saturday driving to the basket while Eric and Jay controlled the boards. Our most improved player would have to be Narren, who’s doing so much more than he was just a short month ago I think he’s going to be really good player sooner than he knows.
Can we say CHAMPIONSHIP!! (See Video Below Compliments of Gary Goodwin!)
Pressure Girl’s… Not enough Pressure!
Shorthanded the girls of Pressure put up fight but just ran out of gas. Playing with only six players and three of them new they were limited in the things they could do. According to Coach Aaron he saw some positives as well as negatives. The newcomers to the program has all of us excited, finally Laura has some help on the boards. Jamella and Celsee are extremely aggressive with Nicole being the finesse player. Channeling that aggression in the right direction will be a challenge and a plus. Shavon better known as (Shortie) had an outstanding game offensively in Saturday’s first game scoring a team high 23 points. Now she going to have to do it on both ends, I’m not sure if everyone is aware but she’s only in the 6th grade, she and Erica are playing against girls that are sophomores and juniors, and contributing. Erica has been doing it for so long against the boys and now the girls we take it for granted…Good for them!
Then there’s dependable Markie who working on her game daily, where would we be without her. She’s determined to be the best, do it everyday in practice and people will notice. Go left young lady go LEFT. Just as Ashley was showing some aggression she hyper extended her knee. Get right back up and keep playing you were figuring it out.
Can’t wait to see all of the high school girls in February, good luck play hard. You never know, who’s watching.
Coach Brice
Swoosh Tournament Re-Cap!
Lynwood, CA - Although our numbers are small and the players are new to the program, our 8th grade young men represented themselves quite well this past weekend.
They advanced to the championship game where we came up a little short on the score board. We were led by the hot shooting of Kyle Hamane who seemed as though he couldn’t miss. In fact at one point he asked why am I coming out I can’t miss right now (Silly me I thought he needed a blow). Kyle’s added a nice mid range game to his arsenal and has shown improvement on the defensive end.
Newcomers Collin and Jordan pleasantly surprised me with their play. A little more time in the gym will help them understand the “Pressure way of playing defense.” At the end however, we couldn’t get a stop when it was needed, that just reminds all of us that we must defend to win!
The High school girls had an exciting weekend as well. Markie hit a game winning three pointer as time expired to give us an exciting win in the first game. Game two was just as competitive as the first but unfortunately we came up a little short.
Our third game was disappointing to lose, we made some mistakes in the last few minutes of the game that definitely cost us.
Our “shorties” on the team Amber, Shavon and Erica, did really well playing with the high school girls. I’m sure we all learned valuable lessons in regards to paying attention to detail.
However, I must say the girls executed as well as anyone in the program, when they decide to play basketball and stop acting like little girls on the court.
They to will learn to defend.
We will see everyone at practice this weekend ready to work hard.
Coach Brice
______________________________________________________________
Our brand-new 5th grade boys team played for the first time as a team this past weekend at the Focus Basketball Tournament. I was pleasantly surprised by the effort of the guys. The teams record was 1-2, but they were competitive every game.
The players played with a lot of heart and desire in all three games. Although we’ve only had a few weeks of practice the team represented themselves well. I see a lot of potential in our young team. We have a lot of work to do to realize that potential, but I’m extremely optimistic that this team will learn to play “Pressure Basketball.”
We will be back at practice this weekend working to get better.
See you there!
Coach Marshall
